SANS Special Webcast: “Maximizing Logging ROI at Premier”

August 22, 2007

Featuring: Alan Paller, Fred Rickabaugh, Jean Wilson, Dave Gratton, and Ron McGinnis

The security team at Premier needed to quickly review log data in detail and store it for a prolonged period of time-something their current solution didn't allow. Though compliance wasn't a factor, the product they purchased helped with audits and pleased their board of directors with the voluntary move to comply with regulations. They also found a vendor that extended itself far beyond its own product to meet the larger customer need.

Comparing Apples and Oranges: Challenges of Event Log Management and Analysis in a Complex Enterprise

Internal threats and increased regulatory mandates faced by today's business and government organizations necessitate even greater demand for the collection, retention and analysis of various types of "logs". These logs provide records of discreet events taking place within the context of applications, systems and networks. The correct interpretation of the varying logs is crucial to gain visibility on user and system interaction, as well as to resolve systemic problems and security violations.

EU Data Retention

Meeting EU Data Retention Directive Mandates and Improving Investigations

Explore practical and effective approaches for telcos and ISPs to comply with the EU Data Retention Directive and improve investigative procedures. Launched in the aftermath of 2004-2005 terrorist attacks on Madrid and London, the Directive requires traffic data and location data related to fixed telephony, mobile telephony, internet access, internet email and internet telephony be retained for a certain period. The retained data is deemed to be a key instrument for the investigation, detection and prosecution of serious crimes. Achieving compliance has proven to be an extremely challenging proposition, since successful compliance incurs significant investment in time-effective call detail records (CDR) management. As telcos and ISPs attempt to comply, collection as well as reporting against these sheer volumes of telephony and Internet access data presents serious procedural, operational and technological challenges.

With insights from leading experts from EMC Corporation, the Robert Frances Group, SenSage’s webinar will provide attendees with actionable advice on how to implement cost-effective strategies for Directive compliance as well as improved investigations.
