SIEM adds key layer to cloud security measures

Many companies are currently in the midst of migrating at least some of their apps and systems to a cloud computing environment, but concerns over the security of data hosted online is giving many IT departments pause.

According to a recent SYS-CON Media report, such issues can be dealt with by leveraging a security information and event management solution when adopting hosted services. Contributor Tom Cecere said integrating the tool into the cloud will allow an organization to better monitor its data.

He also noted that an audit tool will provide the organization with an idea of which areas are particularly vulnerable.

"If you already have a security information and event management solution, ensure that it can integrate data from the cloud, as well as from your identity and access management solution," he wrote. "This will give you a complete view of your security posture."

Only with this end-to-end view of hosted data will companies truly have the ability to spot and rectify issues before they become greater problems.

Earlier this year, a Frost & Sullivan report predicted that the market for SIEM solutions will nearly double during the next several years, growing from $678 million in 2009 to account for approximately $1.3 billion in revenues in 2015.
